Why Change Is A Good Thing. Growth should never be bad.

There is no question that the people we all were many years ago are no longer who we are anymore. Actually, if we are being truthful, the people we all were yesterday are also different than who we are today. As much as change is something that none of us want to face, it is something we have to face. Change is the only thing in this world that stays constant and as hard as it is to realize that things will never be the same as they once were, we can take comfort in the fact that one day things will be better and this creates hope. Hope that one day we won’t have to stay up all night doing calculus homework on information that we will never use again in our lives. Hope that one day it won’t be as hard to get out of bed in the morning. Hope that we will have a job that we love. Hope that the universe will provide us with all that we need. It is this hope that keeps us going. However, as much as we try to have faith that everything will be OK, change is and always will be something we all fear.

Your best friend is falling in love for the first time in either of your lives, two of your favorite people in this world now cannot stand to be in the same room together, people have new friends, new lives, new dreams. People look at you differently, and you look at life differently. All of this is true and there is nothing you can do to stop the world from continuing to revolve. However, not everything has to change. Your friends may be different, but they are still the people you love. You may be a different version of yourself, but you are still you. If you can still manage to laugh until you cry, live away from home after everything that happened and still manage to smile then you can do anything in this world.

You can grow and better yourself, but still see glimpses of the old you from time to time. The one who walked into high school late everyday, the one who always had a new joke, and the one who somehow came to know the most amazing people. And while it remains true that life isn’t the same anymore, you can face that and make it better. No, you can’t drive over to your best friend’s house and go ice skating and make sushi any night of the week that you want. You can’t walk out of high school on a half day and run in the freezing cold to get the best burritos in the world with your favorite people. You will never jump over your last hurdle and cross that finish line again. Even though you might not get the half days and lunch dates as often as you used to, you still have your friends and the memories and there are so many more to come. You might not get the homeroom in high school with your best friends anymore but you still get Christmas parties in your pj'
s when you all come home for vacation. You still get your best friend from middle school and late night trips to Starbucks, you just won’t have to bring your homework anymore.
Things are different, but they don’t have to completely change. Keep the little pieces. Keep the little traditions. Little parts of them will change and the people that you have chosen as your family and best friends will grow and change too, but they are still them. New people will come into their lives. And as much as you may worry that they love them more, and as much as it may feel like you aren’t as important, you most certainly are. Change does not have to be a bad thing, after all, there is no room to become a better version of yourself if you never grow.

You look back and you just feel stupid.
You can’t forgive yourself for falling
or believing all the lies.
You reread every text.
You relive every memory.
And it all starts making sense —
he never wanted love.
He only wanted attention.
He only wanted validation.
“It’s just wondrous how every time I go through some emotional trauma, your posts are so relatable and it gives me so much hope. I love the writing and the photos. It’s all a pleasure to read. I can’t thank you enough for it, really.” — DM from @ThoughtCatalogInstagram follower
